Cauliflower, a cruciferous vegetable, is known for containing compounds that may help prevent cancers. Cauliflower heads lacks the green chlorophyll that is a prominent staple of popular cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, kale and brussels sprouts.

Cauliflower is a great source of nutrients. Cauliflower is an excellent source of Vitamin K and Vitamin C, folate and fiber, and a very good source of fiber, potassium, phosphorus and B vitamins.

Cauliflower: Protection against Cancer

Cauliflower, as with other cruciferous vegetables, contains the phytonutrients sulforaphane and isothiocyanates, which have significant anti-cancer effects. These phytonutrients help reduce tumour growth and reduce cancer cell metastasis.

Sulforaphanes help remove toxins from the body, including cancer causing compounds. Isothiocyanates help destroy carcinogens and help stop cancer cell division. Cruciferous vegetables such as cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage and brussel sprouts may help reduce the risk of colon cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer and ovarian cancer.

Cauliflower: Helps Cell Detoxification

The phytonutrients in broccoli help improve the detoxification capabilities of the body, specifically at the cellular level. Cells are better able to help neutralize and get rid of damaging free radicals, toxins, and cancer causing compounds.

Cauliflower: Add Turmeric to Protect Against Prostate Cancer

The presence of phenethyl isothiocyanates, a phytonutrient abundant in cruciferous vegetables including cauliflower along with turmeric, which contains the phytonutrient curcumin, work together to reduce the risk of prostate cancer or spread of prostate cancer. When cauliflower and turmeric are combined, they reduce both tumour growth and the ability of the prostate cancer cells to spread.

Cauliflower: Protection against Rheumatoid Arthritis

The presence of vitamin C, along with other active compounds within cauliflower, may help protect against inflammatory conditions, such as arthritis.

Traditional Uses

Traditional ancient medicines have used cauliflower to treat a variety of ailments. It has been prescribed to strengthen the core immune system and improve cardiovascular health. Also, cauliflower may help in the treatment of high blood pressure, asthma, and arthritis.
