A toothache is the presence of pain around a tooth. Toothaches may be caused by issues with the teeth, jaw or gums. One of the major causes of discomfort is the presence of cavities. The severity of the pain can range from mild to severe. Also the area of concern may become red and inflamed.
 

Home Remedies for Toothache

  • A traditional home remedy consists of placing a fresh clove of garlic covered in salt, on the affected area. This is believed to help ease the inflammation and pain associated with toothaches.
  • The oil of cloves is said to have protective properties. Mix together a bit of black pepper and clove oil. Massage the affected area.  You can also get relief by placing a clove near the affected area.
  • Rub a fresh piece of lime onto the affected area. Lime is believed to have a multitude of healing properties, and is said to alleviate the pain and inflammation associated with toothaches.
  • A traditional remedy involves eating and chewing raw onion on the onset of a toothache.
  • Mix together salt and cayenne pepper powder. Place a small bit to the affected area. This is said to help ease inflammation and the pain caused by the toothache. Make sure to wash your hands thoroughly after application.
  • The application of vanilla extract is a popular traditional remedy of toothaches. Applying 3 drops of vanilla extract to the area of the toothache is said to work quickly and effectively.
  • Place a raw potato slice onto the area of the toothache. Leave in the mouth for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Drink hot tea when experiencing a toothache. This is said to help alleviate the pain and discomfort associated with toothaches. Also, you can place the hot teabag over the tooth to further help alleviate the discomfort.
  • Chew on fresh or fried oregano by the affected area. You can also apply oregano oil to the area of the toothache. Oregano, besides being an anti-microbial, has been traditionally used to help alleviate pain.
  • If you are experience toothache, mix together a few drops of mustard oil and salt. Massage your jaw with this ointment.
